Helloo there! In my previous album about my trip to Florence, I said that life is full of surprises...
Today, I would like to add something else about life: it's also important to seize all the opportunities that come our way. That's how I ended up spending a week in Sri Lanka in October! This destination wasn't on my bucket list at all, and I didn't know much about the country, but I'm so glad I went there! In fact,
Sri Lanka is now one of my favorite countries <3
As you may know, I often travel and spend moments alone, but this time it was a girls' trip!!
To be honest, I'm always a little apprehensive before traveling in a group, because even though I do my best to be sociable, show the best side of myself, and match everyone's energy, there are always some moments when I need to be alone, in my own world, and recharge my social batteries haha! I think we all also know that some group trips can truly ruin friendships, and I'm very afraid of that now! But luckily, everything went well overall, and I'm super happy and grateful to have gone with these girls <3
So, it was only a week, but very intense as we visited several regions of Sri Lanka (changing hotels and cities almost every day). We started in Negombo, a city near the airport and the capital Colombo. I think this was the perfect choice for the first day, to rest a little after the flights and gradually immerse ourselves in the country by walking along the Dutch canal, visiting the city center, its cute handicraft shops, and restaurants (big up to BOHO ;) - The following day, we had the opportunity to visit a small spice-herbal garden and to go on an amazing elephant safari in Mineriya National Park! I really looove elephants since my last trip to Thailand (pictures are coming soon ;) We also climbed the famous Lion Rock in Sigiriya. The price is a bit expensive 30$ but the view from the top was just incredible, providing a feeling of complete serenity (even if two dogs were fighting each other lol). That's also something I liked about Sri Lanka: there weren't many tourists and the places weren't crowded. And luckily, it was the rainy season, but we didn't have a single drop of rain :) We also tried the popular 6-hour panoramic train ride from the city of Kandy to Ella (but I must admit that this was the only disappointment of the trip, and we even got off the train before our station at Nuwara Eliya to finish the journey by taxi :( In Ella, we visited the well-known Nine Arches Bridges, the Secret Waterfall, and Ravana Falls... I wasn't able to visit the tea plantations but it's something I highly recommend you do if you come to Ella, as the region is renowned for it! Then, we spent our last days in the city of Mirissa in a superb hotel, and chilling on the beach :)
To conclude, I'm so happy to have visited Sri Lanka. I have discovered a green country with a variety of landscapes (sea, mountain...). Transportation (taxi, tuk tuk...) was also easily accessible thanks to the app PickMe. I found the island safe and clean, I ate well, and people were very kind! I really hope to return there one day!
See you soon! Assitan <3
